Term 5
Welcome to Term 5! This will be an exciting term in EYFS as the weather starts to improve, which is something to look forward to.
Please continue to ensure your children arrive at school with suitable clothing for the weather. As always, please also ensure everything that comes to school is clearly named.
This term, the children will continue to explore independent tasks as well as guided learning with an adult during English and maths time. In addition to their curiosity time where they are led by their own interests.
Our topic for this term is ‘Growing’.
We will be considering how the world around us grows.
We will be consolidating our learning about the life cycle of butterflies by having our own class caterpillars that we can watch grow and emerge as butterflies!
Our learning of growing will also include looking at how plants grow and how they help us to be healthy through the food we eat.
We will be looking at a variety of texts related to ‘Growing’.
We will start the term reading ‘The Growing Story,’ and we will also read ‘Grandpa’s Garden’ and ‘I Can Eat A Rainbow’. Then as part of our traditional tale learning we will be reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
In Maths, this term we will be learning about building numbers beyond 10 including continuing patterns and verbal counting.
We then move on to adding and taking away.
Finally, we move onto shape where we learn how to manipulate through rotation, composing and decomposing.
We will be continuing with our phonics groups. If your child brings home a Read, Write Inc book, they will have practiced this book throughout the week at school. As it is a book that is familiar to them, they might be able to read it at home with increased fluency.
All children will continue to bring home a “sharing” book each week, for you to read with or to your child, as well as a Read, Write Inc. phonics book for them to read to you.
A phonics homework sheet will be sent out every Friday.
Our PE day this term will be on a Tuesday. Please ensure children are dressed in their P.E. kits with any earrings removed.
Forest School will begin in week 3 and the day for this is TBC for both classes.
The weather this term for Forest School can be changeable so please ensure your child has plenty of layers to put on over their clothes so that they can remove layers if they get warm. They will continue to need waterproofs and wellies. They will also need a complete set of school uniform/ PE kit to change into if they get very wet. Please make sure they have spare socks and that every item of clothing is named, whether worn or spare.
Please see the Learning Overview below for more information about the Term 5 curriculum.
